Understanding and Addressing Causes of Environmental Interference with Telecoils
Presenters: Doug Edworthy and Richard McKinley
Misconceptions about environmental magnetic interference,
which may temporarily produce magnetic noise through activated
telecoils in hearing aids and cochlear implant processors,
have led many people to underestimate the usefulness of telecoils
and consequently of hearing loops. Two experts from the United
Kingdom and from the U.S. will explain magnetic interference
(aka EMI in the U.S.) and what can be done to find, fix and/
or manage its causes. Attendees will be provided with real life
examples and learn how compliance with the international
standard for loop systems addresses magnetic noise.
