Personal Sound Amplifiers: An Affordable Alternative to Hearing Aids

Two-thirds of Americans over 70 have some hearing loss, but only one third have hearing aids, which cost $1000s and are not covered by Medicare. Hearing loss leads to isolation and social withdrawal. In this interview, Dr. Joseph S. Alpert, editor-in chief of the American Journal of Medicine, talks about the utility of personal sound amplifiers, which could be a cost effective alternative for patients who can’t afford hearing aids.
